MexSabor, a vibrant new Mexican restaurant in Fresno, California, was recently remodeled with a fresh, modern look. The project was a collaborative effort between Nexgeneral Construction and talented interior designer Tami Waters, WonderHause Design Studio, who brought us on board to help turn her creative vision into a reality.

From Vision to Reality

The journey began with Tami’s imaginative design concepts, which included bold features like a glass bottle wall with integrated lighting, zebra wood bar tops, and custom cabinetry. While Tami provided the creative direction, our role was to translate her ideas into detailed construction plans and bring them to life. This process required close collaboration, as we worked together to refine the designs and ensure they were both functional and buildable.

A Complete Transformation

The project involved a comprehensive remodel of an existing restaurant space.

– Flooring: We replaced the old tile with polished concrete floors, giving the space a sleek and durable foundation.

– Lighting: New lighting fixtures were installed throughout the restaurant, including unique pieces sourced from Ukraine.

– Exterior Enhancements: The exterior received a full refresh with new paint, updated awnings, modern sconces, and black stainless steel cabling for the railings.

– Kitchen Overhaul: The kitchen was completely renovated to meet health department standards. This included running new plumbing, repairing worn grout, and updating finishes to create a functional and compliant workspace.

– Custom Features: The dining area is equipped with custom cabinetry, murals, and a standout glass bottle wall that adds a unique touch to the space.

– Bar Updates: The bar area was updated with zebra wood countertops and new tile work for a warm yet contemporary feel.

Navigating Challenges Together

One of the most rewarding aspects of this project was overcoming its unique challenges. Restaurants require meticulous attention to detail—not just in design but also in meeting health and building codes. Our team worked closely with local authorities to ensure every element of MexSabor met these requirements.

The glass bottle wall was another exciting challenge. From sourcing materials to designing low-voltage lighting that enhanced its aesthetic appeal, this feature required innovative problem-solving and precise execution.

Why it Matters

MexSabor isn’t just another restaurant—it’s a space that reflects creativity, collaboration, and craftsmanship. It’s a place where people can gather to enjoy good food in an environment that feels welcoming and thoughtfully designed.
