Nexgeneral Construction transformed the courtyard at the California Armenian Home into a vibrant and welcoming space for residents. The renovation included custom shade sails, string lighting, and a Sonos sound system, turning what was once a hot and rarely used area into a cool and inviting place to gather and relax.

The project was made even more special through the work of artist Hayden Keeley, whose mural brought color and heart to the space. Featuring Forget Me Nots, the national symbol of remembrance for the Armenian Genocide Centennial, the mural adds a thoughtful and emotional layer to the courtyard.

Designing for People, Not Just Spaces

Before this renovation, the courtyard was too hot and rarely used. After it, residents had a cool, shaded outdoor gathering space they could actually enjoy. That shift — from unusable to beloved — is what good renovation work looks like.

The technical scope was straightforward: shade structure installation, electrical for lighting and audio, hardscape improvements, and coordination with artist Hayden Keeley on the mural. What made it meaningful was the intentionality behind every decision. The Forget Me Nots in Hayden’s mural weren’t chosen at random — they carry deep significance for the Armenian community at The Vineyards, honoring a history that matters to the people who live there.
